Visiting Statue Of Unity

Statue of Unity, Picture by Manoj Padaiyachi

What’s the place?

Statue of Unity is the World’s tallest statue with a height of 182 metres, built on Narmada River of Gujarat. It is twice the height of Statue of Liberty. Built on the river Narmada, facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Kevadiya District, the statue is homage to the First Deputy Prime Minister of India- Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Sardar Patel was highly responsible towards uniting the nation after it’s independence, that’s why this Statue is named as Statue of Unity.

What’s it made up of?

This colossal statue, is made up of bronze, steel and reinforced concrete. A nation-wide campaign was initiated to collect soil from farmers. Soil from around 169,058 villages was collected to build a wall which symbolises unity in diversity.

The interesting fact about this bronze cladding statue is that it will change its color from original bronze color to green due to oxidation.
